Vehicle Registration

Calculating the Québec Sales Tax

The QST is 9.975%. It is based on the value of the vehicle, which is generally its selling price. However, the value of a vehicle cannot be less than that fixed under the law or by Revenu Québec. This value is established according to:

  • the Guide d'évaluation Hebdo (light trucks and automobiles (Hebdo Mag Inc.)) for used passenger vehicles and small trucks;
  • the Livre Bleu des concessionnaires de motocyclettes canadiens (All Seasons Publication Limited) for used motorcycles;
  • the Livre Bleu des concessionnaires canadiens de VTT, motoneiges et motomarines (All Seasons Publication Limited) for all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.

Note:
If the vehicle no longer appears in the reference books above, other rules may apply. Contact the SAAQ before going to a service outlet.

Important

These publications are available through subscription only and are reserved exclusively for automotive dealers who are members of the Corporation des concessionnaires d'automobiles du Québec (CCAQ), the Association des marchands de véhicules d'occasion (AMVOQ) or independent automotive dealers who are not part of an association. They are also available to parts recyclers, banks, insurance companies, long-term lease companies, vehicle fleet managers and municipal libraries. Publishers therefore do not provide information on vehicle prices. You can nonetheless consult these publications in some municipal libraries.
