Commercial vehicle

A motor vehicle other than a bus or minibus, with a net weight of 3,000 kg or less, where owned by a legal entity, a partnership or a natural person using the vehicle mainly for commercial or professional purposes.

Farm motor vehicle

Pickup truck or small van type vehicle with a net weight of 3,000 kg or less, owned by a farmer and used mainly for the transportation of farm produce or material required in its production.

Farmer: a person holding a registration card issued by the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec, or a person who is a member of an association certified under the Farm Producers Act. A person may register a maximum of 5 vehicles as farm vehicles.

Vehicle used by driving schools

A road vehicle owned by a driving school or an organization that holds a licence to teach prospective drivers how to drive heavy trucks.

Vehicle designated for the transport of schoolchildren

A road vehicle, other than a bus or minibus, designated for the transport of schoolchildren. This vehicle may be used occasionally or full-time to transport schoolchildren and may be operated by a school board or a private educational institution deemed to be in the public interest, or as part of a contract with a school board to perform duties and exercise powers related to the transport of schoolchildren, or with an authorized college of general and vocational education (CEGEP) to organize the transport of schoolchildren.

Motor home

  • A motor vehicle that is designed to serve as permanent self-contained living quarters and that is owned by a legal entity.
  • A motor vehicle with a net weight of 3,000 kg, designed to serve as permanent self-contained living quarters and owned by an individual who uses it primarily for personal purposes.

Equipment transport vehicle

A road vehicle with a net weight of over 3,000 kg used solely for the purpose of transporting equipment that is permanently affixed to the vehicle and its operating accessories. This definition does not apply to emergency vehicles or to vehicles that are used or may be used to transport other goods.

Tool vehicle

A road vehicle, other than a vehicle mounted on a truck chassis, that is designed to perform a task, with the workstation forming part of the cab. A truck chassis is a frame fitted with the mechanical components found on a vehicle made for the transportation of passengers, goods or equipment.

Winter tool vehicle

A tool vehicle used only for snow removal.

Snowblower

A road vehicle with a net weight of 900 kg or over, equipped with a mechanical blower to remove snow.
