Dealers and Recyclers

Register of the Recycler

If you hold a recycler's licence, you must maintain written or computerized records of the following information:

  • the identification number of each road vehicle you receive, a description of its major components and identification of the components using the vehicle identification number or a reference number written on the part;
  • a description of any separate major vehicle component that you receive and the vehicle's corresponding identification number. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is also known as the serial number;
  • the date a new road vehicle or major component is received, along with the name and address of the individual from whom they are received;
  • the date of sale of a road vehicle or major component, along with the buyer's name and address.

This information must be kept for 2 years after the road vehicle or major component has been sold.

Records must remain on the premises of your business at all times.

You must allow a peace officer or duly appointed SAAQ employee to inspect, at any reasonable time of the day, your records, road vehicles and major components in your possession. Failure to comply with the rules governing record keeping may result in a suspension of your licence and a fine.

We allow any form of record keeping, so long as the necessary information is clearly recorded. We do, however, suggest that information be recorded in the following manner.
