Procedure to Follow for the Knowledge Test - Passenger Vehicle (Class 5)

To take this test, you are required to:

• have held a learner's licence for at least 10 months;
• make an appointment for the knowledge test using the SAAQ's online services or automated telephone service, where you will need to provide the file number (no de dossier) that appears on your learner's licence.

To prepare for the test

The SAAQ recommends studying:

• Driver's Handbook;
• Driving a Passenger Vehicle;
• Road Access Binder (available in recognized driving schools)
• Check your knowledge online on driving a passenger vehicle or a motorcycle.

On the day of the knowledge test

Remember to bring:

• your learner's licence;
• your identity card issued by the SAAQ (if one was issued);
• one of the pieces of identification required on the day you were issued your learner's licence.

Once your identity has been confirmed, you are required to:

• take the knowledge test;
• pay the test fees (in cash, by cheque or with a debit card*).

*You can pay with a debit card in all mobile service units EXCEPT those in the Far North, James Bay, Inukjuak, Kuujuaq and Blanc Sablon.

If you fail

You must wait at least 28 days before retaking the knowledge test, for which you will have to make a new appointment.
