Driver's Licence
New Residents Who Hold a Driver's Licence Issued by: a US State
New residents who hold a valid driver's licence issued by their jurisdiction of origin may drive the corresponding class of vehicle their licence authorizes: a passenger vehicle (Class 5), a motorcycle (Class 6), or a moped (Class 6D) for up to 6 months after settling in Québec. Past that, new residents must obtain a licence from the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec.
Passenger vehicle or a moped
You can exchange your licence for a Québec licence for a passenger vehicle or a moped without taking a test.
Other vehicles, including motorcycles
For vehicles other than passenger vehicles and mopeds, tests are required. For more on this, consult the section on Québec driver's licence classes and select the class of licence you want to obtain.
