Driver's Licence

Motorcycle (classes 6A, 6B and 6C)

To operate a motorcycle, you must hold a driver's licence that corresponds to one of the following classes, based on the cylinder size of the motorcycle you wish to drive:

All motorcyclesCylinder size of 400 cc or lessCylinder size of 125 cc or less 

  • Class 6A: all motorcycles
  • Class 6B: cylinder size of 400 cc or less
  • Class 6C: cylinder size of 125 cc or less

These licences also authorize the holder to drive vehicles in class 6D and class 8.

Conditions for obtaining a class 6A, 6B or 6C motorcycle driver's licence

  • Minimum age: 16. Persons who are under age 18 require the written consent of the person with parental authority (father, mother, legal guardian etc.).
  • Have held a class 6R learner's licence for at least 1 month, have passed a motorcycle driving course given at a school recognized by the Association québécoise du transport et des routes (AQTR) - French only, and passed a test on a closed track. Class 6R: this learner's licence allows motorcycle operation only for purposes of a driving course or an SAAQ closed track test.
  • Have held a class 6A learner's licence for at least 11 months and have passed the road test.
  • Have held a probationary licence for 24 months, if you do not already hold a passenger vehicle (class  5) driver's licence.
