- the holder of a driver's licence is deceased.
To cancel a driver's licence, contact us
- by telephone (have your driver's licence on hand). If a licence holder is deceased, you must go in person to an SAAQ service outlet,

Reimbursement of driver's licence fees
Depending on the circumstances and conditions, you may be eligible to be reimbursed for driver's licence fees.
- Cancelled licence
If you cancel your driver's licence or probationary licence before the expiry date, you are eligible to be reimbursed fees based on the number of complete months remaining on your licence. In the case of a learner's licence, no fees are reimbursed. If you selected pre-authorized debits as your method of payment, you must contact the SAAQ to make arrangements to finalize payment.
- Death
Upon producing proof of death of a driver's licence or probationary licence holder, fees may be reimbursed based on the number of complete months between the date of death and the expiry date on the licence. You must go in person to an SAAQ service outlet and submit proof of death (original copy of the death certificate from the Directeur de l’état civil), along with the licence to be cancelled.
- Foreign driver's licence
Upon producing proof of a foreign driver's licence, you may be entitled to reimbursement of fees based on the number of complete months between the date the foreign licence was issued and the expiry date on the driver's licence or probationary licence. You must have received your foreign driver's licence to be eligible.
- Licence under penalty
You may be entitled to reimbursement of fees based on the number of complete months a licence is revoked or suspended. However, certain conditions apply.
