In addition to the numerous inconveniences that come with a criminal record, an offender must cover costs of at least
$1,700. This does not include variable expenses (lawyer, increase in premiums for private automobile insurance, costs for travel to the U.S. due to a criminal record, cost of leasing an alcohol ignition interlock device to drive with a restricted licence, etc.).
For a 2nd similar offence, minimum costs are over $4,500, and over $6,000 for a 3rd offence or more.
