Road Safety

Speeding Reduces a Vehicle's Traction on the Road

Motorists who speed run a higher risk of losing control of their vehicle in curves due to centrifugal force.

At high speeds, vehicles lose their grip on the road, so there is a higher risk of skidding out of control.

Why? Going into a turn at normal speed, tires compress, springs flex and a vehicle's suspension prevents it from being pulled towards the outside part of the road.

If a vehicle is travelling too fast, centrifugal force becomes greater than the force of friction between tires and the road, and a vehicle skids or overturns.
