Penalties

Under the Highway Safety Code, there are penalties for speeding offences. The two types of penalties for offenders include fines and demerit points entered on a driving record.
Fines for offences
Offence Fines
*Excessive speeding
Fines are doubled when drivers are convicted of an excessive speeding offence. Fines are tripled if drivers are convicted of an excessive speeding offence after three or more convictions for excessive speeding over the previous 10 years after this measure came into effect.

Speeding in a roadwork zone
Fines are doubled for speeding offences committed in roadwork zones. In the case of speeding offences, penalties for this type of offence apply.

If you exceed the speed limit by 1 to 20 km/h $15, plus $10 for each additional 5 km/h over the speed limit $15 to $55
If you exceed the speed limit by 21 to 30 km/h $15, plus $15 for each additional 5 km/h over the speed limit $75 to $105 
If you exceed the speed limit by 31 to 45 km/h $15, plus $20 for each additional 5 km/h over the speed limit $135 to $195*
If you exceed the speed limit by 46 to 60 km/h $15, plus $25 for each additional 5 km/h over the speed limit $240 to $315*
If you exceed the speed limit by 61 km/h or over $15, plus $30 for each additional 5 km/h over the speed limit $375 or over*
Driving too fast for road or weather conditions $60 to $100 fine

In addition to these fines, other fees may apply, which are subject to change and determined on the basis of the amount of the penalty, as well as a mandatory $10 contribution to the crime victims compensation program (IVAC).
