Excessive Speeding
Offence Penalties
1st offence If you are pulled over for excessive speeding:

AND if you are found guilty of the offence:

2nd offence If you are pulled over for excessive speeding and have had a previous conviction for the same offence within the last 10 years (in French):
  • immediate suspension of your driver's licence for 30 days;
  • immediate seizure and impoundment of the vehicle for 30 days if both offences were committed in a zone of 60 km/h or less;

AND if you are found guilty of the offence:

  • the number of demerit points is doubled;
  • the amount of the fine is doubled.
3rd offence If you are pulled over for excessive speeding and have had 2 previous convictions within the last 10 years:
  • immediate suspension of your driver's licence for 30 days;
    or
  • immediate suspension of your driver's licence for 60 days if all three offences, including the latest, were committed in a zone of 60 km/h or less;
  • immediate seizure and impoundment of the vehicle for 30 days if this offence and at least once previous were committed in a zone of 60 km/h or less;

AND if you are found guilty of the offence:

  • the number of demerit points is doubled;
  • the amount of the fine is doubled.
4th or subsequent offence If you are pulled over for excessive speeding and have had 3 or more previous convictions within the last 10 years:
  • immediate suspension of your driver's licence for 30 days;
    or
  • immediate suspension of your driver's licence for 60 days if this offence and at least two previous were committed in a zone of 60 km/h or less;
  • immediate seizure and impoundment of the vehicle for 30 days if this offence and at least one previous were committed in a zone of 60 km/h or less;

AND if you are found guilty of the offence:

  • the number of demerit points is doubled;
  • the amount of the fine is tripled.
