Road Safety

Education Kit: La mécanique prend la route (available in French only)

Drivers aged 16 to 24 are overrepresented in Québec's road safety record. They represent 25% of drivers involved in accidents with bodily injury, yet they account for only 12% of all driver's licence holders.

Excessive speeding, which is sometimes associated with impaired driving, is one of the main causes of accidents involving young people. A penchant for risk and a lack of awareness about the facts associated with excessive speeding are some of the factors that can explain this situation.

Target Group
Secondary five teachers and students.

Goal
The SAAQ provides students with an opportunity to realize that travelling in an automobile involves a series of unchanging physical phenomena, some of which can present serious or fatal accident risks. The hope is that by understanding the principles explained in the kit, young drivers will behave more responsibly on the road.

Contents

  • Forty Student's Manuals
The kit comes with a manual students can use to explore the mechanical processes covered in the Physics 534 study program. Information in the manual clearly shows how mechanical processes relate to driving an automobile. The manual includes practical exercises to assimilate the information that has been learned.
  • One Teacher's Guide
The guide suggests a series of approaches for teaching the material. It also proposes topics of enrichment for students who would like to further their knowledge about the relationship between speed and physics.
  • One CD-ROM
The kit also comes with a CD-ROM to help teachers introduce more complex physical principles, including kinematics and dynamics. It is an aid to understanding these principles.

The kit is reserved for teachers. To order, or for more information about the kit, write to us.
