Québec secondary 5 and college students are the target group for education about speeding. The SAAQ therefore tackles this serious issue in awareness campaigns targeting young drivers aged 16 to 24 and has introduced programs aimed specifically at secondary 5 and college students in this age group.
Secondary School
The SAAQ has created two information kits for secondary 5 students. The first, entitled La mécanique prend la route (available in French only), consists of learning activities that deal with issues related to speeding and driving an automobile. The kit is designed for use in the Physics 534 course.
The second kit, entitled L'optique prend la route (available in French only), helps students explore a series of optical phenomena related to automobile use, including stereoscopic vision, lighting and eye diseases that can affect driving ability.
College Students
The education program entitled Philosophie et sécurité routière (available in French only) has been prepared for use by college philosophy teachers. The aim of the program is to encourage young people to think about and engage in discussion about the problem of speeding, given that it is the principal cause of fatal accidents among young drivers aged 16 to 24.
