A new campaign designed to raise public awareness about the importance of wearing a seat belt was held for four weeks beginning September 15. In addition to police operations, television and radio ads were broadcast until October 12. The message to all motor vehicle occupants was clear: buckle up at all times!
The campaign was meant to remind occupants that an impact at 50 km/h can have much more serious consequences than they think, particularly since more than half of all accidents occur near the home and in zones of 50 km/h or less. Wearing a seat belt can make the difference between life and death, between serious and light injuries.
