Road Safety

Required Clothing

Required ClothingA motorcycle helmet – essential and mandatory

Under the Highway Safety Code, all motorcyclists must wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet that meets standards (ACNOR, DOT, ANSI, Snell, BSI, ECE) and is correctly fastened can reduce the severity of head injuries and even prevent death in the event of an accident. Helmets are an effective way to avoid head injuries that often require long treatments and which can lead to permanent impairment. Full face helmets provide the best protection, since they cover the entire head.

If your helmet does not have a visor, wear goggles to protect your eyes.

Clothing to save your own skin

The only protection motorcyclists can count on is their clothing. In the event of an accident or a fall, protective gear helps avoid or reduce the severity of injuries.

Protective gear should be selected to provide reliable protection in the event of impact or inclement weather, as well as the best visibility and comfort.

Some materials provide better protection against abrasion and tearing. Clothing made of leather or anti-abrasive materials such as Kevlar or Cordura, and which feature added protection for the most exposed areas of the body in the case of a fall, are best. Linings made of synthetic nylon-type materials should be avoided, since they could melt on the skin when sliding on the road surface and cause serious injuries.

In addition to a jacket, motorcyclists should wear pants, gloves and footwear that are specially designed for riding a motorcycle. Passengers must also be properly protected.
