Road Safety

Driving Laws and Regulations

Compliance with laws is key to safe, cooperative and responsible driving. While it is important to obey all traffic rules to be courteous on the road and to avoid conflict, some fundamental rules of the road affect the safety of other road users and must be followed:

  • Obey traffic lights;
  • Obey road signs and traffic signals (mandatory stops, speed limits, signs requiring you to yield the right of way, etc.);
  • Obey the right of way of other road users (pedestrian crosswalks, bicycle paths, etc.);
  • Obey certain obligations in connection with traffic rules (signalling your intentions, not tailgating, leaving enough space for a cyclist, etc.).

Failure to obey these rules can result in various fines and, in some cases, demerit points.
