Do you make simple gestures that help maintain friendly relations on the road, like leaving enough space for pedestrians to cross the road and yielding the right-of way where indicated? From May 2 to 22, 2011, the SAAQ is rebroadcasting a television commercial on courtesy, with the theme “Courtesy begins with obeying the Highway Safety Code.” The message shows two types of behaviour that make sharing the road safe for various road users.
According to a Leger Marketing survey conducted in Québec in 2010, 72% of respondents said that lack of courtesy makes them feel less safe on the road. Furthermore, 85% of respondents believed that lack of courtesy is an important problem in Québec.
From May 9 to15, the SAAQ is also participating in the Semaine de la courtoisie (courtesy week), during which the Sûreté du Québec, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, the Association des directeurs de police du Québec and Contrôle routier Québec will be conducting awareness campaigns about courtesy on the road.
