Make sure that Heavy Vehicle Drivers Can See You
Did you know that truck and bus drivers can't always see you? Like motorists, drivers of these vehicles cannot see some areas of the road around their vehicle. These areas are known as blind spots. You should avoid risky maneuvers if your are in a blind spot.
Here are five common situations. Each situation shows a 15-second video.
At the Front of the Vehicle

When you overtake a truck - always on the left - make sure that you are in the truck driver's field of view as soon as possible and don't return to the right lane until you can completely see the truck in your inside rearview mirror.
At the Rear of the Vehicle
If you can't see one of the outside rearview mirrors of the truck you are following, you are following too closely and the driver can't see you. A collision could result if the driver brakes or slows down suddenly.
On Each Side of the Vehicle

If you are driving alongside a heavy vehicle, the driver may not see you. You could be in danger if the vehicle changes its trajectory. Depending on your circumstances, speed up or slow down so the driver can see you. A driver can see you if you see his or her face in the outside rearview mirror.
