2011 Campaign – If You Drink, You Can't Drive

The SAAQ is broadcasting two new French-language messages against impaired driving. An English-language radio ad and application for iPhones, named Bar Code, have been launched as well.

The messages about friendship, which last 30 seconds each, show that friends can play an important role in preventing you from driving while impaired. They can be your designated driver or prevent you from driving when you're under the influence. And why not offer to be the designated driver once in a while?

Each year, alcohol is responsible for approximately 31% of fatalities and 16% of serious injuries on the Québec road network. Along with speeding, alcohol continues to be a major cause of accidents. When you drive while impaired, your risk of facing severe penalties and of being involved in a fatal accident increases considerably.

Designated drivers. Gotta love 'em

The first message is addressed to all drivers. It features four men in their thirties outside a bar, and one of them is the designated driver.

A radio ad, which lasts 30 seconds, is also being broadcast to reach English-speaking audiences.

Let's watch out for each other

The second message is mainly addressed to drivers age 16 to 24. It features two friends in a bar who agree not to drive after drinking alcohol.

Bar Code Application

Code-barMore and more young people are using smart phones to keep in touch and chat, using social media even in bars. That's why the SAAQ created a socialization and awareness raising application addressed to young people.

Designed for iPhones, iPods Touch and iPads, this application combines Facebook and geolocation to allow you to find friends near you and talk with them. It also suggests messages to make your friends aware of the dangers of drinking and driving and to encourage them not to drive after drinking.

Users of such devices can obtain the application from the Apple application store, the App Store. They can also download it at www.code-bar.caThis link will open a new window..
